Here we have a 5" Ajax, extended in length to an 0-4-2 format. A nicely engineered model originally built in South Africa, with the usual silver soldered copper boiler that comes with both historic and fresh hydraulic and steam tests. Mechanically the valve gear and cylinders are all in good condition with no significant wear or slop. Fitted with a pair of injectors and a hand pump in the tank. Lubrication is a large displacement reservoir under the footplate with sight feed regulator. The drain cocks are manually operated from the footplate but then plumbed into a rather neat central matrix to point the steam where the builder wanted it. There is also a vacuum ejector fitted for vacuum brakes.
A really solid little loco this, nicely engineered and well conceived for running.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
